The short answer.
- Choose the water experience only when every family member can manage its practical conditions; a child’s age alone does not decide the visit.
- Neither venue permits strollers inside. Plan how the child will move, rest and feed before reserving.
- Compare the exact museum, standard or premium ticket, whole family and selected date. Date-specific availability and final totals remain to be checked.
Choose the experience your family can actually use
Planets in Toyosu is the option to investigate when walking barefoot through water is part of the experience your family wants. Borderless at Azabudai Hills offers a museum without a fixed route, for a visit built around wandering and discovering. Neither choice is automatically better for toddlers, older children or teenagers. Start with the practical conditions in the table, then ask which experience everyone wants to buy.
A useful family decision has three answers: the experience you want, any condition that rules it out, and the day that can accommodate it. Give each adult and child a chance to identify a must-have or a concern.
| Your deciding question | Planets | Borderless |
|---|---|---|
| Water is the main reason to go | Barefoot water artworks; read the specific participation restriction | A different, exploratory museum experience |
| A small child needs their stroller | Stroller stays outside; prepare a carrying or walking plan | Stroller stays in the luggage room |
| One adult is taking young children | Children under 13: one guardian aged 18+ per three children, including free-entry children | Elementary-school age and younger: one adult aged 18+ per five children, including free-entry children |
| A feeding break is essential | Ask staff about the first-aid room | No nursing room inside; plan with Azabudai Hills facilities |
| You want to explore without a set route | Check the present artwork areas rather than an old room count | No fixed route or museum map |
| You are comparing a rainy-day outing | Check both the approach and any outdoor artwork restrictions | Fully indoor venue; check the underground approach |

Water, carrying and feeding can matter more than age
At Planets’ Koi water artwork, a child with an inseam below 40 cm must be carried or use a baby carrier with a guardian aged 18+. Some water reaches adult knee height; bring a change of clothes. Check that carrying plan before buying.
Its official help permits baby carriers, keeps strollers outside and provides diaper-changing facilities; staff can assist with the first-aid room for breastfeeding. The required adult-to-child ratio counts children who enter free. Assign who will accompany each child through the visit, and keep the family’s carrying plan workable for the adult as well as the child. A ticket category and a manageable visit are separate checks.
Borderless also excludes strollers and has no nursing room inside, although its FAQ points families to facilities within Azabudai Hills. Re-entry is not permitted. If feeding or a stroller nap must happen at a particular time, complete it before entering or choose a slot around it. Do not plan to leave for a break and return on the same ticket.
For either museum, ask the family about darkness, bright effects and unpredictable movement before committing. Avoid promising a child will enjoy a venue because another child of the same age did. If a practical requirement remains unanswered, resolve it with the operator before choosing a restrictive ticket.

Plan the journey from the hotel door, then the return
For Planets, the operator identifies Shin-Toyosu on the Yurikamome and Toyosu on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line as different approaches. The shorter walk from one station does not establish the easier journey from your room. Compare the connection your family will actually use, including any change between operators, and check the final approach with your stroller or bags.
For Borderless, the official directions name Kamiyacho on the Hibiya Line and Roppongi-itchome on the Namboku Line, with underground connections. Pick the entrance that fits your arriving train. An indoor museum still needs a journey from your hotel; a convenient last passage should not conceal several earlier transfers.
One concrete room starting point is our MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East profile. The hotel distinguishes JR Ueno’s Iriya Exit from Metro Ueno Exit 1, while Tokyo Metro’s Hibiya Line serves both Ueno and Kamiyacho. That creates a route candidate for Borderless, not a measured door-to-door time or a guarantee about every elevator. Keep the exact hotel address, station operator and entrance together when checking the day.
Sketch the whole outing on one note: room, departure station, museum entrance, meal location and return. Allow a flexible meal rather than booking a second fixed commitment immediately afterwards. For a family returning to the hotel for rest, compare the return as carefully as the outward journey.

Price the same four-person family and the same ticket type
Use a worked booking brief rather than a headline starting price: two adults, one child aged six and one aged ten, visiting on your chosen Tokyo date. The published standard categories place both children in the 4–12 child band. This is a comparison method, not an availability check or a live quote. Enter the party on each seller’s current booking screen and keep the chosen local date and entry slot beside the total.
For each museum, copy the adult price A and child price C for the selected standard entry option, then calculate 2A + 2C. If the children’s rates differ in the actual offer, enter them separately. Add transport and any compulsory charge, and compare all amounts in one currency. A seller’s from-price or currency conversion on a search result is not the completed four-person bill.
The options also need to match. On Klook, Planets activity 25300 lists Admission ticket separately from Premium pass and attraction-combo choices. Borderless activity 20707 lists Entrance pass separately from Flexible pass and combo choices. These are product-page checks; we have not selected your date, party or available slot. Do not compare standard timed entry against a premium or flexible product as if the only difference were the seller.
A bundle earns its place only if the second activity already fits your trip. Write its valid date, entrance, transport and any extra cost beside the museum entry. If you would not independently choose that activity, treat the bundle as a different plan rather than a saving on your original plan. Repeat the calculation if the family composition or visit date changes.

Compare the purchase channel before paying
Planets’ standard Entrance Pass, purchased directly from its official store, permits eligible date/time changes up to three times, no later than two hours before admission. Exceptions include coupon purchases, partial group changes and unavailable new slots. A Premium Pass has separate rules. Cancellation and refund are different from a permitted change. For an agency purchase, start with that seller’s own instructions instead of assuming the official-account process transfers with the ticket.
Borderless likewise distinguishes direct purchases from other sellers. Eligible direct Entrance Pass changes have a two-hour deadline and a limit of three changes, with restrictions such as unavailable dates or splitting an order. General cancellation is not offered. Its Flexible Pass has a different deadline reference. Read the selected ticket’s current rules instead of turning the word flexible into a promise of a refund.
Keep the final purchase record small enough to use at the entrance: full museum name, participant categories, Tokyo date and time, ticket or voucher, seller contact and saved conditions. Make sure both adults know where the confirmation is stored. If the seller’s summary badge and the selected package’s detailed terms disagree, resolve that discrepancy before paying; a general marketplace label is not enough to choose which rule applies.
Choose one museum once the family conditions, journey and complete quote work together. Our attraction-ticket checklist covers the final checks for other Tokyo bookings as well.
- The intended museum and package are correct; standard, premium and combo products are separated.
- Children’s ticket categories, adult supervision and any participation restrictions are checked.
- Carrying, feeding and the journey from the actual hotel address are workable.
- The complete party, visit date, entry instructions and final total appear on the chosen offer.
- The selected seller’s change and refund conditions are saved before payment.

Questions families ask.
Is one teamLab museum automatically better for toddlers?
No. Start with the child’s carrying, rest and feeding needs, then compare what the family wants to experience. A recommendation based only on age misses practical requirements that can change the booking.
Does this comparison establish tickets are available for my family?
No. It checks the current operator guidance and product pages. Select your date, option and complete party on the seller’s booking screen to check available slots and the final conditions.
