Decide what “separate” means for your group
Four separate sleeping places and four conventional beds are different requirements. A room could offer individual mattresses using two regular beds and two futons, yet still fail your preference for four raised beds. Start by deciding whether bunks, floor bedding or a sofa bed are acceptable. This makes hotel results easier to eliminate without relying on a room’s marketing name.
The same question applies to families with teenagers, four friends, or an adult travelling with older relatives. Each group can have a different reason for avoiding shared beds. Record those needs clearly and then search for the arrangement, rather than assuming that a four-person room will provide the right configuration.
Use the named room’s bedding inventory
Open the room-type page and locate the actual bed inventory. Count individual sleeping surfaces, then identify their type. A “twin” label on its own does not resolve additional bedding for the other two guests. If a booking site combines several room variants under one result, check the variant selected before moving to payment.
There are rooms with four conventional single beds. MIMARU SUITES Tokyo Asakusa’s official Two-Bedroom Suite lists four single beds across two bedrooms. It is a concrete layout to inspect, not a guarantee of availability for your dates or a statement about every MIMARU room. Match the live booking result to that named type.
Bunks, sofa beds and futons change the evening space
Assess alternative bedding on its own terms. For a bunk arrangement, ask which sleeping position each guest would use and whether the hotel publishes relevant restrictions. For a sofa bed, check whether its sleeping setup removes the seating you expected to use in the evening. For futons, look at where they are laid out and what space remains when all bedding is prepared.
A property’s bed list can be more informative than a hero photograph. MONday Apart UENO SHIN OKACHIMACHI’s four-person Superior Family listing describes a mixture of beds, a sofa bed and a bunk bed. That illustrates why the word “family” should not be read as “four ordinary single beds.”
Check room division as well as bed count
Four individual beds in one room can work well when everyone keeps similar hours. Two bedrooms can be more useful when some guests want lights out earlier. The tradeoff is not purely the number of beds: separate bedrooms might share one toilet or a common bathroom route. Use the floor plan to see the entire evening routine.
Look for the space used by open suitcases, charging devices and clothing. If every bed is permanent, the room might retain its daytime arrangement. If bedding is set up at night, ask which furniture or floor space changes. Treat those questions as part of the room choice, especially for longer stays.
Ask one precise question before paying
If you cannot establish the arrangement, send a short message with the property name, exact room type, dates and party details. State whether you need four conventional single beds or merely four separate sleeping surfaces. Ask what will be prepared under the rate you are considering and whether a bedding supplement applies.
A written reply is useful when a booking site uses a translated room name that differs from the hotel’s own label. Save both descriptions. If the property answers only that the room accommodates four, ask again about the beds; maximum occupancy does not answer the sleeping-arrangement question.
Choose by fit, then by the full offer
Once the sleeping requirement is confirmed, compare location, total stay cost and booking conditions. A room with the right beds can still have an awkward arrival route or too little luggage space for your group. Conversely, a well located room with unsuitable beds is not a useful bargain just because its nightly headline price is lower.
Confirm the same bedding arrangement on the final reservation. A flexible date search or a later change of room category can produce a different configuration. Keep the record specific enough that someone else in your group could read it and understand exactly where all four people will sleep.
- Four ordinary beds required? Write that phrase explicitly.
- Alternative bedding acceptable? Identify the type and assigned sleeper.
- Separate bedrooms required? Check doors and the bathroom layout.
- Before payment, match the live offer to the named room’s bed inventory.
