The short answer.
- Confirm luggage storage and room access as separate arrangements.
- Read the exact property’s rules, including self-service access and collection hours.
- Build both the arrival day and departure day around the bag-retrieval route.

A bag drop and a ready room solve different problems
For an early Tokyo arrival, confirm where the suitcases can wait and when the family can enter its room. A hotel may accept luggage while the room remains unavailable. If children need an immediate nap, shower or quiet indoor space, a bag drop alone is insufficient. Build the morning around the room access your reservation actually provides.
Outline airport procedures, travel into Tokyo, the hotel stop, a meal and the return for check-in. Give every suitcase and the stroller a place in that sequence. These are planning examples based on published policies, not first-hand reports of stays.
Compare the exact property’s storage arrangement
The examples below show why a “luggage storage” icon is insufficient. Check the branch, day, bag quantity and size, collection time and excluded contents. Save the property’s reply with your reservation.
MIMARU offers free storage on check-in/checkout days, 07:00–22:00, subject to space. Outside that scope: 500 yen/bag/day. Valuables, fragile items and food are excluded. Ask your location about any arrangement beyond the standard window.
MONday Apart Premium Ueno Okachimachi describes free storage before check-in and after checkout, requires collection that same day and asks for advance contact about large or numerous bags. It also excludes valuables, fragile items and food. This property’s published conditions should not be applied automatically to every MONday hotel.

Self check-in does not establish a staffed luggage desk
Minn’s general FAQ points guests to individual property guidelines for any self-service storage area. Minn Ueno explicitly lists one. Read the property-specific information instead of assuming every Minn hotel has the same facility.
Minn Ueno describes smartphone self check-in and remote reception. Remote help does not establish an employee who will physically accept your suitcase. Ask how to enter storage before room check-in, retrieve bags after checkout and accommodate your bag count.
Minn Ueno separately tells guests not to ship luggage to the property. Its self-service area should therefore not be entered as a courier destination. Settle the recipient separately if you want airport forwarding.
Where instructions omit hours, charges or departure-day access, leave those fields unresolved. Obtain the details before building the morning around an assumed free or round-the-clock facility.

Early room entry must be confirmed on its own terms
MIMARU cannot promise early check-in. MONday Ueno Okachimachi publishes a standard 15:00 check-in, with some plans using different times. Minn Ueno does not permit entry before 15:00. Read your reservation’s time and seek a confirmed alternative when early room access is essential.
Pre-registering guests or completing a smartphone form does not establish earlier room entry. Keep luggage drop, room access and your first activity as separate entries in the trip notes. Make the activity depend on the other arrangements only when their timing is settled.
Hypothetical example: parents with a toddler need a reliable midday nap after an early flight. They can seek an accommodation plan explicitly supplying the required room access, or simplify the day around the regular time. An unanswered early-check-in request cannot support that nap plan. Older children comfortable with a few hours out may need only a confirmed bag drop.

Choose the bag drop by the rest of your day
Choose storage for the whole route, including retrieval. A hotel stop works well when it is close to your meal and activities. If it creates a large detour, compare a verified facility along the route. Bags stored far from the departure route can consume the time you meant to save.
The table is a planning tool, not an availability promise. Confirm the operating conditions, then assess the day with your children, stroller and retained bag. Leave flexibility for a slower airport exit.
| Your situation | Useful arrangement to investigate | Decision test |
|---|---|---|
| Early arrival; activities near the hotel | Confirmed hotel bag drop | Can the family walk comfortably with its day bag? |
| Early arrival; room needed for a nap | Confirmed room access plus a bag plan | Does the reservation provide the required time? |
| Checkout; sightseeing before an evening departure | Confirmed storage and retrieval on the way out | Does collection leave enough airport travel time? |
| One-night side trip before returning | Explicit multi-day storage or forwarding agreement | Are dates, charges and the recipient confirmed? |
Keep a day bag that works without the stored suitcase
Hypothetical family: two adults and children aged seven and eleven arrive in Ueno well before afternoon check-in. After confirming their hotel’s luggage arrangement, they retain water, snacks, chargers, a change of clothing and weather-appropriate layers. Their first activity can be shortened if anyone is tired; it does not require reopening the stored suitcase.
For babies and younger children, add the supplies needed through the likely room-entry time and a margin for delays: feeding items, nappies and the comfort item that makes waiting easier. Keep passports, money, essential medicines and electronics with the adults. If the stroller is needed during the day, it should stay with the family rather than become another item to retrieve.
Pack and lift the day bag before the trip. Several children’s bags spread weight but add items to manage. Choose an arrangement the adults can handle comfortably; a bag drop helps less when retained baggage is nearly as cumbersome as the suitcases.
After checkout, set the retrieval time before sightseeing
On departure day, work backwards from the airport journey and flight check-in requirements. Allow time to reach storage, collect every item, repack and travel to the airport. Confirm departure-day access before sightseeing; collection should not be the last task in a tightly timed itinerary.
For a late-night departure, ask specifically whether the hotel can hold bags until your planned collection time. If you are considering airport storage, Haneda publishes different hours for its facilities: the temporary storage entries in Terminal 3 operate around the clock, while Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 entries have shorter hours. That distinction belongs to those airport facilities, not hotel storage generally.
Airport storage only helps if retrieval fits your movements. Taking bags there before city sightseeing can add an extra airport journey. Compare the complete route, children’s energy and transport costs before choosing it as a backup.

Ask one clear question and save the answer
Use a message such as: “For reservation [name/reference] on [dates], can we leave [bag count, approximate sizes and stroller if relevant] at [arrival time] before check-in and collect them at [time]? On checkout day, may we collect at [time], and what access instructions or charges apply?” Ask only about the days you need, and distinguish a request from a confirmed arrangement.
Keep the reply, reservation, directions and collection time in both adults’ trip notes. Verify the pickup procedure at handover. For self-service storage, follow the property’s instructions and account for every bag. If conditions change, simplify the day or choose a verified alternative before crossing town.
Questions families ask.
Does hotel luggage storage guarantee early check-in?
No. Bag storage and room entry are separate arrangements. If an early nap or shower is essential, obtain a reservation or confirmation that establishes the necessary room-access time.
Can I leave bags overnight after checkout?
Ask the property. A policy for checkout-day storage does not establish overnight or multi-day acceptance. Confirm the dates, charges and retrieval arrangement before relying on it.
Do self-check-in hotels have luggage storage?
Some provide a self-service area, but verify the individual property and its access instructions. Remote reception does not establish a staffed bag desk or courier-receiving service.
