The short answer.
- Confirm the booked night, dated hotel-arrival time and actual entry procedure separately.
- MIMARU’s after-22:00 notice and MONday Nihonbashi’s after-midnight intercom instructions are different policies.
- A late-check-in agreement does not change the selected rate’s cancellation or no-show terms.

Confirm three things before buying a late-arrival stay
A late arrival works when the booked night is correct, the hotel has agreed to your arrival time, and you know how to enter and check in. Check these separately. Payment does not explain entry at a locked entrance or confirm acceptance of a changed arrival time.
Estimate hotel arrival after immigration, baggage, transport and the final walk. Give a date as well as a time when midnight is involved. Ask the exact property for its procedure. This guide compares published instructions and planning choices; we have not used these late-arrival systems ourselves.
Two checked hotel policies use different thresholds
MIMARU’s common terms list front-desk hours of 07:00–22:00 and ordinary check-in of 15:00–22:00, allowing property exceptions. Its FAQ says arrival after 22:00 is possible with advance notice. For a stay at Tokyo Ueno East, confirm the location’s after-hours entry and check-in method directly; those brand pages do not describe a universal self-check-in process.
MONday Apart Premium Nihonbashi’s own FAQ says it handles late arrivals around the clock, with check-in normally from 15:00. After 24:00 the entrance is locked: use the intercom beside it and contact the property beforehand. Its facilities page describes an automatic check-in machine with passport scanning. These statements establish a different arrival process; they do not establish continuous in-person staffing.
| Property or source scope | Checked instruction | Question to settle before departure |
|---|---|---|
| MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East, using common brand guidance | After 22:00: notify the location beforehand; common desk hours end at 22:00 | How do we enter and complete our specific late check-in? |
| MONday Apart Premium Nihonbashi | After 24:00: advance notice and entrance intercom; automatic check-in machine listed | Which arrival steps and documents apply to our reservation? |
| Any other property | Its own current instructions need checking | Is support on site, remote, or available only after an arrangement? |

Prepare the check-in process while you still have time
Read the property’s instructions before travel. Complete any required registration, access-code or payment step and save confirmation. Do not infer an online preregistration requirement from another hotel’s system: MONday’s published machine description does not establish a universal smartphone form.
Keep passports and the reservation name accessible instead of burying them in a checked suitcase. Ask which guest details the property requires, whether all guests must be present, and how to obtain help if its machine cannot locate the reservation. Pack a charged phone and charger in hand luggage. If you depend on an email link, open it through the verified booking or hotel channel before arrival.
Assign one adult to registration and one to children and bags. If only one adult is travelling, simplify what that person must carry and operate simultaneously. One document folder and clear instruction sheet will be easier to use than ten general screenshots.

Late-arrival permission and cancellation terms answer different questions
MIMARU’s terms allow a reservation to be treated as cancelled when a guest fails to arrive without notice by front-desk closing, or the specified expected arrival time. MONday’s apartment terms also allow cancellation treatment for an unnotified missed arrival time. Communicating a delay is therefore a task to do when the estimate changes, rather than waiting to see whether reception remains open.
The money consequences need a separate check of the booked rate. MONday’s property FAQ explicitly distinguishes booking-channel and plan conditions, including non-refundable offers. Read your confirmation for the applicable deadline and charge. Do not infer a free cancellation from a hotel accepting a later check-in, or infer that a payment prevents an unnotified arrival from being treated as a no-show.
| Situation | Useful action | What to save |
|---|---|---|
| Same booked night, later hotel arrival | Update the property and obtain the late-entry procedure | Acknowledged new arrival time and instructions |
| Arrival crosses midnight | State both the booked night and dated arrival time | Reply that refers to the correct reservation |
| Flight change moves the stay by a whole night | Ask about changing the reservation through the booking channel | Confirmed revised dates and any cost |
| Family can no longer travel | Check and act on the selected rate’s cancellation terms | Cancellation confirmation and charge or refund record |

Hypothetical 21:15 landing: tell the hotel what the flight time cannot tell it
Imagine two parents and children aged seven and eleven landing at Haneda at 21:15 with a reservation at MIMARU Tokyo Ueno East. An estimate of 21:15 in the hotel’s arrival field would be misleading: the family is still at the airport then. Before flying, they explain that arrival at the hotel may be after 22:00 and request the procedure for their reservation.
They save the reply and contact method, then update the hotel if delayed. They ask how any essential rental bedding will be handed over, instead of assuming a closed desk can process every request. The example does not assume a fixed flight-to-hotel duration or entry method.

Hypothetical 00:40 check-in: name the night and the calendar date
Imagine a family planning to arrive at MONday Apart Premium Nihonbashi at 00:40 on 13 November after a late flight on 12 November. To use the room then, they plan to reserve the night beginning 12 November and explicitly ask the hotel to confirm that arrangement. A booking beginning 13 November normally refers to that day’s afternoon check-in, so it would leave a gap at 00:40.
They write “Reservation for the night of 12 November; expected arrival 00:40 on 13 November, Japan time,” give all guests and ages, and save the acknowledged intercom instructions. If the booking shows the wrong date, they resolve it through the provider and hotel. A late-arrival request is not a confirmed date change.

Plan the first half hour in the room
After arrival, the task may be getting children washed and into their beds. Keep sleepwear, toothbrushes and essential personal items in one accessible bag. Agree who handles registration and who prepares it. Leave complicated unpacking or laundry for the following day if it would prolong the arrival.
Prepare the children’s immediate food needs before a shop becomes necessary. Check any venue for the actual date and time; a kitchen does not put ingredients in it. Obtain a property reply about essential bedding, a cot or a bed guard as well. An entry agreement does not confirm other requests.
Use one message, then update it when the estimate changes
A useful template is: “Our reservation is [name/reference], for the night beginning [date]. We are [all guests and children’s ages]. Our flight arrives at [airport/terminal] at [date/time]. We expect to reach your hotel at [date/time, JST], possibly later if delayed. Please confirm late check-in, entrance access, registration and payment steps, and the contact method to use if our estimate changes.”
Send it through the property’s official contact method or your verified booking channel. Keep the reply with the reservation, then communicate a material delay before the hotel’s stated threshold or your agreed arrival time. If the requested arrangement is unavailable, compare another first-night stay with a confirmed arrival procedure. Make that decision before committing to a restrictive booking, while the family still has practical choices.

Questions families ask.
Does a front desk closing at 22:00 mean check-in is impossible afterwards?
Not necessarily. MIMARU’s FAQ permits later arrival with advance notice. Ask the exact property for the entry and check-in procedure rather than treating desk hours as either a ban or an automatic permission.
Does 24-hour check-in mean a receptionist will be waiting?
It does not establish the staffing arrangement. MONday Nihonbashi lists an automatic machine and after-midnight intercom procedure; confirm how assistance works for your reservation.
If I arrive just after midnight, which date should I book?
Plan for the night that began before midnight and confirm the dated arrival with the hotel. A booking beginning on the new calendar date normally starts at afternoon check-in, unless another arrangement is explicitly agreed.
