The short answer.

  • Family capacity, hotel access and exact-room usability are separate checks.
  • Compare doorways, bedside space and the bathroom after all sleeping places are prepared.
  • Match the hotel’s written answer to the booked category; a property link does not confirm an accessible allocation.

Find a room that works for the whole family after the beds are prepared.

A four-person result answers how many guests the booking accepts. It does not answer whether a wheelchair user can reach the bed, bathroom and dining area in that same room. Start with both requirements: a sleeping place for each traveller and the routes each person needs to use independently or with their chosen assistance.

A family with two adults and two children might accept bunks for the children, while needing an ordinary bed with access on a particular side for another guest. Another family may need four ordinary beds. Write down the arrangement first, then check the space remaining when every bed, including any sofa bed, is ready for the night.

An accessible hotel does not establish an accessible family category.

karaksa hotel colors Tokyo Yaesu makes the distinction explicitly: its FAQ says the hotel is wheelchair accessible, while only some rooms are wheelchair accessible, and directs guests to contact the hotel. That answer does not identify the Comfort Quadruple as one of those rooms.

The Comfort Quadruple has four single beds on a raised section of flooring. It also lists a shower bench and an in-room washer-dryer. Those are useful individual features, but neither the bench nor the four-bed capacity resolves access to the sleeping area or the complete bathroom. Ask which exact category the hotel can confirm for your requirements; it may be different from the room that first attracted you.

Use measured details without turning them into a suitability guarantee.

MIMARU publishes room and shared-area measurement sheets. At Asakusa Station, its Family Apartment sheet identifies details that a floor-area figure alone would miss. The River View version has the same published area and beds, but different threshold, bedside and mattress-height figures.

These are operator-published measurements, not measurements we made on a visit. Compare them with your own equipment and preferred way of moving, then ask the property to confirm the room you will receive. A wide entrance can still lead to an unusable bedside or bathroom.

Check the bathroom separately from the room entrance.

The same Asakusa Station sheet lists a 45 cm bathtub height and 47 cm depth for both categories. A bathtub measurement does not establish a roll-in shower, the clear width of the bathroom doorway or space beside the toilet. Keep those questions open until the hotel gives the details that matter to you.

Ask for a floor plan or labelled photos showing the bathroom door, shower entry, toilet approach and any fixed rails. If you use a shower chair or another item, confirm its dimensions and where it will be placed. A request for an accessible bathroom is less precise than describing the layout you need.

Also separate equipment from layout. Adding a chair or portable rail does not answer every question about the underlying room. Decide who will use each fixture and what confirmation they need, without assuming that one person’s successful arrangement will suit another.

Do not transfer measurements between similarly sized room categories.

MIMARU Ueno East’s currently linked accessibility sheet describes a 38 m² Apartment (Sofa-Bed): two singles and two sofa beds, an 85 cm entrance, a 2 cm threshold, a 90 cm bedside gap and a 52 cm mattress height. Its current main room list includes Apartment (4 Single-Beds), but does not list that Sofa-Bed category.

This is a mismatch to resolve with the hotel, not evidence that the sofa-bed category is available for your dates. Our Ueno East four-single-bed profile is a different category. Do not apply the sheet’s clearance or bed-height figures to that profile simply because both show 38 m².

If an OTA uses another name, send the complete offer and ask the property which official category it represents. Keep the reply with the reservation. A hotel-level booking link or accessibility filter cannot reconcile those names for you.

Agree equipment and room assignment before relying on a request.

MIMARU provides property-specific communication sheets for requests and describes limited-quantity rental equipment, including shower chairs, bath grips and freestanding handrails. Use the sheet for your selected hotel; the existence of a brand-wide list does not reserve an item for your stay.

Give the dates, guest ages, exact room category and equipment dimensions relevant to the route. Ask whether the property is confirming a suitable room assignment or merely recording a preference. If the proposed solution involves moving furniture, request confirmation that the hotel permits and will arrange that change.

A useful message is: “We are [party and ages] staying [dates]. We are considering [full room category]. Our wheelchair is [width and length]. We need access to [bed side and bathroom arrangement]. Please confirm the exact layout after every bed is prepared, the clear doorway widths and any thresholds. Is [required item] available for these dates, and is this room assignment confirmed?” Replace the placeholders with the information you actually need to share.

Confirm the journey and the booking channel as separate final checks.

Once the room works, trace the arrival route from the train platform or vehicle drop-off to that hotel entrance. Our stroller-and-station guide explains how to separate the nearest exit from the route with the equipment you need. For a wheelchair journey, confirm your own access requirements with the operator rather than adopting a stroller route automatically.

Then match the agreed category to the offer you will buy. Our related hotel profiles and booking links identify family layouts or a property; they do not confirm a wheelchair-suitable room assignment. For the examples here, date-specific room inventory, your family composition and an accessible-room allocation on an OTA have not been verified.

Compare cancellation terms while the unanswered questions are still visible. Do not assume a refundable rate allows confirmation at any later time: record its actual deadline. If the hotel changes your room or your party changes, repeat the layout and equipment checks before treating the earlier answer as applicable.

Questions families ask.

Does a wheelchair-accessible hotel guarantee that its four-person room is suitable?

No. karaksa colors Tokyo Yaesu, for example, says only some rooms are wheelchair accessible. Confirm the exact category, beds and bathroom arrangement together.

Can I use the dimensions of another room at the same hotel?

Only if the property confirms that they apply to your offer. Ueno East’s linked Sofa-Bed measurement sheet describes a different category from the current Four-Single-Beds room list.

Does the word Universal or Accessible settle every requirement?

The name is a starting point. Ask about the doorway, thresholds, usable bedside space, bathroom layout and any equipment you need for the exact room and dates.
